About Mogden

Mogden Sewage Treatment Works was built between 1931 and 1935 at a cost of £1.7 million and covers an area of about 120 acres.

Around 1.4 million people live in the area served by the works and some of the flow has travelled over 20 miles by the time it reaches Mogden.

Many more people also work in this area, so in total the works serves around 1.8 million people.

Odour management

Thames Water is investing in a project to significantly reduce odour at Mogden by 2008.

These improvements involve covering parts of the treatment process and installing equipment to extract and treat air from inside the covered areas.

The work will be targeted to give the greatest benefit from the available funds.

We are sorry that some residents in the immediate area around the works find the level of odour unacceptable at times.

We are confident that these improvements will significantly reduce odours from the site.

Mosquitoe treatment programme

We follow a strict programme of inspections and treatment to provent mosquito infestation at Mogden.

It is audited by local environmental health officers and based on independent recommendations.

We have been part of a successful campaign with the councils of the London Boroughs of Hounslow and Richmond Upon Thames to raise public awareness of how to eradicate mosquito breeding sites in the wider local area.
